COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
Partnership takes the shape
the work needs.
We work with anyone trying to reach South Asian and diaspora film communities, and with anyone building something those communities should be part of. What that looks like depends entirely on what the work calls for — a single night, a season, or something we haven't done before.

WHY THIS ONE
The pathway, made visible.
Bassam Tariq was born in Karachi and raised in Houston. He has now made a studio film, starring a two-time Academy Award winner, set in the city he grew up in.
He did not arrive there in one move. A Sundance-funded documentary, then an independent feature that took a critics' prize at Berlin, then this. Thirteen years of work, each step widening what the next one could be.
That progression is the entire argument South Asian Lens exists to make. The talent was never the missing piece. What decides whether a filmmaker goes from a first documentary to a wide theatrical release is whether a pathway exists — and who was willing to hold the door.
So when a film like this reaches our cities, we do the one thing a community can do that nobody can do for it. We fill the room.

HOW WE PARTNER
What we bring
We bring an engaged creative community of filmmakers, students, artists, and film lovers across North America and South Asia, backed by the strategic insight, industry experience, and relationships of the Collective.
How it works
Every partnership is collaborative. If the intent aligns with our mission, we shape something together that fits the moment, whether that’s a single event or a longer-term program.
What we ask
We ask that every partnership give something meaningful back to the community, through access, opportunity, and a thoughtful celebration of culture, craft, and storytelling.
