South Asian Lens (SAL) grew from a simple observation.
Across South Asia and the global diaspora, extraordinary filmmakers, storytellers, and industry professionals are creating work that deserves a wider audience. Yet too much of the knowledge, experience, and opportunity that shapes careers remains locked inside closed networks.
We believe the creative ecosystem becomes stronger when knowledge is shared, relationships are built, and pathways become more accessible.
SAL is our commitment to creating those pathways between filmmakers in South Asia and the diaspora, through Fireside Conversations, Community Labs, The Lens List, and the South Asian Diaspora Film Archive.
WHY SOUTH ASIAN LENS EXISTS
Mission
We connect South Asian creatives through collaboration, industry access, and shared knowledge to enable creative growth.
Vision
To build a borderless global ecosystem where South Asian creatives gain access, opportunity, and build momentum to accelerate their careers.
Values
Transparency
We treat governance, finances, and decision-making as open by default, not on request. The people who build this ecosystem with us have the right to see how it runs.
Community
South Asian creatives are not a market segment. We are a community with shared histories, overlapping diasporas, and distinct creative traditions, and we build for that reality first.
Equity
We invest in the craft, not just the career. Access to mentorship, resources, and opportunity should not depend on where a creative was born or who they already know.
Access
Industry access is something members open for each other, not something insiders dispense. A borderless ecosystem means the room stays open once one of us gets in.
Collaboration
Individual careers accelerate because the collective moves. Knowledge, mentorship, and opportunity flow in every direction here, from established to emerging and back.
